If you read my last blog you would know that my mum is a seamstress and used to make wedding dresses for private clients, as well as teach lingerie making classes at TAFE (or community college). Her mum used to work in a factory and my grandmother from my Dad's side is also a seamstress.
Growing up a lot of my clothes were made by mum, and I hated it because she would match my siblings and I. Now I appreciate all those outfits and being able to have my clothes tailored by her or my grandmother, whenever I please. Not that I use this option often enough.
"Couture translates literally from French as "dressmaking" but may also refer to fashion, sewing, or needlework and is also used as a common abbreviation of haute couture and refers to the same thing in spirit. Haute translates literally to "high"." ~ Wikipedia
Over the years mainstream fashion has exploded with the internet and the ease of having clothes made for cheap in a factory in china and selling it to as much of the world as you can reach. Remember when Kim Kardashian wore body-con dresses and within 6 months it was copied and sold online? Well this year Meghan Markle's wedding dress was re-created the very next day. Its everywhere, its easy and its...become boring.
Following that a surge or 'authenticity' has risen. Fashion icons, bloggers and instagram influencers everywhere now aim to have their wedding dresses made by Dior (cue Chiara Ferragni's wedding dresses...obsessed) or a high end artist equivalent.
Apparently only 2000 women around the world can actually afford these pieces on the regular. But these art form has been around for centuries. So here at Parker Boutique we are bringing back 'couture' or 'art pieces' with an affordable price tag.
Your local Artisan is doing exactly that without the marketing team behind them. They are less focused on the marketing because all their time and money goes into their art and passion.
That is what we do here. We connect you to the 'Designer', where you can get jewellery and clothing handmade especially for you, with the added bonus of saving the environment. What more could you want really?
